When do you need one?

Signs that a root canal treatment may be necessary

It doesn't always hurt at first. These are the most common symptoms indicating the pulp is compromised.

🦷

Pain when biting or chewing

Especially if the pain is intense, throbbing or persistent. An inflamed pulp creates pressure that worsens when force is applied to the tooth.

🌡️

Prolonged sensitivity to cold or heat

If cold or heat causes pain lasting more than 30 seconds, the nerve is likely damaged and needs urgent evaluation.

🔴

Swollen gum or abscess

Swelling, a white bump on the gum, or a taste of infection signal that the pulp is already necrotic. Urgent treatment prevents the infection from spreading.

Treatment types

Not all root canals are the same

Cost and time vary depending on the tooth's anatomy. At your first visit we tell you exactly what you need and what it costs.

🦷

Single-rooted (front tooth)

One canal. Incisors and canines have a single root. The treatment is faster and the price is lower.

🔧

Multi-rooted (molar)

2 to 4 canals. Molars have multiple roots. Done in a single session with mechanized instrumentation.

🔬

Mechanized endodontics

We use nickel-titanium rotary instruments for more complete, safer, and faster cleaning than manual technique.

♻️

Root canal retreatment

If a previous root canal failed or became reinfected, it can be redone. We remove the old filling, clean again, and reseal.

😌

Emergency root canal

For acute pain or active abscess. We see you the same week — often the same day. We relieve the pain first.

👑

Root canal + final restoration

After a root canal the tooth needs restoration. Depending on the case, we use composite, a post, or a crown. All done at SISO.

How it works

The treatment, step by step

In most cases resolved in a single session. Here's what happens from the moment you arrive to when you leave.

1

Local anesthesia

We apply anesthesia before we start. The procedure is painless — this is the most common myth we want to dispel.

2

Canal cleaning

We remove infected or necrotic tissue from inside the root using mechanized instrumentation. Complete and precise cleaning.

3

Filling and sealing

We fill the canal with gutta-percha and biocompatible sealer to close the space and prevent reinfection.

4

Final restoration

The tooth stays in place without a pulp. We restore it with composite or a crown depending on how much structure remains.

"I was terrified of having a root canal. They explained everything beforehand, I felt nothing and it was done in under an hour. I don't understand why I avoided it for so long."

Frequently asked questions

What patients ask most about root canal treatment

No. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, the same as a regular filling. What hurts is the infection before the treatment — not the treatment itself. Most of our patients are surprised by how straightforward it was.
The price varies depending on the tooth (single- or multi-rooted) and case complexity. We publish prices on our website and give you a written quote at the first visit. No surprises or hidden costs afterward.
In most cases, a single session of 60 to 90 minutes. More complex cases or active infections may require two sessions. We'll tell you exactly how many you'll need at the first visit.
When the dental pulp (the nerve) is irreversibly inflamed or infected. The most common causes are: deep decay, tooth fracture, trauma, or a filling very close to the nerve. If you have pain when biting, prolonged sensitivity, or a swollen gum, consult as soon as possible.
It depends on how much tooth structure remains. If enough wall is left, we restore with composite. If a lot of structure was lost (especially in molars), a crown is recommended to protect against fractures. In some cases a post is also placed for support. We evaluate this at the consultation.
Front teeth (incisors, canines) have one root and one canal. Molars (premolars and molars) have 2 to 4 roots and canals. That's why a molar root canal takes longer and costs more than one on a front tooth. In both cases the procedure is painless.
It means redoing a root canal on a tooth that was already treated but became reinfected or wasn't adequately sealed the first time. The previous filling is removed, the canal is cleaned again, and resealed. It's a viable procedure that lets you keep the tooth instead of extracting it.
Yes, it loses its blood supply and becomes more brittle over time. That's why proper restoration after a root canal is essential: composite if enough structure remains, or a post and crown if significant wall was lost. At SISO we handle everything in-house — the root canal, the post, and the crown, all in one place.
